Undergraduate Tuition & General Fee Rates

Since fall 2004, Illinois State University has frozen the Undergraduate Tuition and General Fees rate for each group of new incoming students. The frozen rates remain in effect for four continuous years and are set by the Board of Trustees for the upcoming year.

For those incoming students that are enrolled in a program that requires five or six years to complete, your freeze rate will extend an additional year or two. For a listing of those programs that qualify for the extended time frame, please see the 5 & 6 Year Major Listing.

The freeze rates do not include the Student Insurance or University Housing charges.

These qualifications and rates are reflective of the latest Board of Trustees Resolution(s). Qualifications and rates are subject to change pending any future Board of Trustees, Legislative or University Administrative action.

Please contact the Student Accounts Office at (309) 438-5643 if you have questions.

To find your current Undergraduate Tuition Rate please use the following table:

  1. Find the semester that you were first enrolled1.
  2. Determine if you have a 6, 5, or 4 year major.
  3. Click on the Tuition Table associated with that semester.

This will give you the rates for the current school year and the duration of that rate.

Undergraduate tuition (in-state/out-of state) and general fees shall freeze based on the following table. The duration of the initial freeze rate depends on qualified primary major(s)/sequence(s) carried within the individual's catalog year as of the official "10th-day census" of the last undergraduate semester attended within the four continuous calendar years after being classified as enrolled1. If during a future semester, a student becomes classified as a graduate, the prevailing graduate tuition and general fee rates shall apply2.

View the list of 5 & 6 Year Undergraduate Majors/Sequences that qualify for 5 and 6 year freeze rates and terms.

Please note: Insurance, installment, and etc. are not considered as general fees. Upon expiration of the initial and additional two-year freeze periods, the prevailing rates shall apply.

1Definition of first semester enrolled - Must be an undergraduate student in a degree seeking program, including the 'General Student' classification and in attendance as of the official '10th day census'. If carrying a primary major/sequence of unclassified (065.00) when first enrolled, the tuition freeze will not apply. If carrying a primary major/sequence in the Integrated Accountancy B.S./M.P.A. program (382.00, 382.01 or 382.02) or Integrated Languages, Literature & Cultures B.A./M.A. program (314.00, 314.12, 314.13 or314.15) when first enrolled, the student is considered as an undergraduate student for purposes of this definition. Classification of graduate status in a prior semester does not disqualify eligibility for tuition freeze.

2Effective for semesters after summer 2005, the undergraduate rate shall apply for students carrying a primary major/sequence in the Integrated Accountancy B.S./M.P.A. program (382.00, 382.01 or 382.02). Effective for semesters after summer 2007, the undergraduate rate shall apply for students carrying a primary major/sequence in the Integrated Languages, Literature & Cultures B.A./M.A. program (314.00, 314.12, 314.13 or 314.15).
