Explanation of General Fees

General Activity

This fee supports programs and services that promote student involvement outside the classroom. This funding includes the Student Government Association and Graduate Student Association, registered student organization programs, student entertainment activities (concerts, speaker, movie, etc.), Student's Legal Services, the Vidette (Student newspaper), child care center for students, NiteRide (bus service), and recreation programs.

Health Service

This fee provides for basic health services (examinations, treatment, urgent care, and minor surgical procedures) and counseling services (comprehensive mental health services, life planning, and alcohol/drug intervention. Some additional charges may apply based upon the service provided. It also supports student health promotions and educational accommodations outside the classroom for students with disabilities.

Athletic and Service

This fee is used to partially support the operational expenses of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Cheerleaders.

Redbird Arena

This fee is used to pay the principal and interest for the original construction of the facility and to support the program/operational expenses.

Bone Student Center

This fee covers the principal and interest related to the original construction of the facility and to support operational/program expenses.

Campus Enhancement

This fee is designed to rejuvenate the campus environment and student programming by the addition of new/updated facilities and modern services. This fee will be used to pay the principal and interest for the original construction of the facilities and to support the program/operational expenses for a performing arts center, parking structure, and infrastructure improvements in the residence halls.

Recreation Facilities

This fee covers the principal and interest of the construction of the University Golf Course, McCormick Pool, Horton/Hancock Athletic Complex (partially). The fee also supports the operational expenses of the Student Rec Building and remodeling/rehab of recreational and athletic facilities.

Grant-in-Aid

This fee provides talent related tuition credits to pay for non-athletic programs.

Student to Student Grant

Income from this fee is matched by the Illinois State Scholarship Commission and is used to provide additional financial aid scholarships to Illinois State University students. This is a mandatory fee but refundable. Not assessed during summer semesters.
