Money on Your Card

When I need to deposit funds into my Redbird Card debit account, there are a bunch of ways I can do it. Like online through the iCampus Portal, in person, by mail, or into one of these 3-D machines on campus. (Turns to friend wearing 3-D glasses) Not that kind of 3-D, silly. The meal plans and flex dollars will automatically be added to your ID card accounts before the school year starts. When you add money, it will always be added to your Redbird Card debit account, never to flex, but when flex runs out, the system will roll into your Redbird Card debit account and take funds from there. Need to know about your account? When you need to know, you need to know. Ya know? That's why my iCampus Portal is my one stop for checking my Redbird Card account information 24/7. Just go to the Financial Info tab to check balances, recent transactions, or to add money using a credit card. For details on how to add money, or using the iCampus Portal, check out our Web page on adding money.

Explanation of Accounts

Hey! This thing is like money. Or at least as much money as I deposit into it. This one little card accesses three different accounts. There's a meal plan account used in residence hall dining centers so you can get all you care to eat. The flex account can be used at campus Subways and restaurants at the Bone Student Center. And the Redbird Debit account can be used anywhere on campus where the Redbird ID Card is accepted. Don't worry about telling the cashier anything; the system automatically knows what to do. And remember, the money on your card can only be used on campus, and the Redbird Debit account is not available for campus withdrawals. For detailed explanations on how the different accounts work, if balances are refundable, or how to close an account, check out the Card Account link.

Forms and Contacting the Redbird Card Office

Even in this electronic age, there are times when you need to touch and smell a nice piece of paper. For those occasions check out the printable forms on the Redbird Card Office forms link. There's a form there that can be used to request a refund of your debit account for when you leave school or graduate and deposit slips that can be used for mail-in deposits. Many of your questions can be answered by checking out the FAQ Web page. But when I need to talk to a real, live human being, it's nice to know there are people I can talk to to get the answers I need. Whether you prefer to call on the phone or e-mail, all the Redbird Card Office information can be found on the Contacting the Card Office Web page. Redbird Card Office hours are listed there too.

Protecting Card

Every Illinois State student and employee receives a Redbird Card because, first of all, it's your ID. But, this all-purpose wonder is a debit account card and lots more. So you need to make sure you keep it secure and protected. You don't want to use it as an ice scraper, a chew toy, or give it to someone else to use. Ahhh, there it is. I guess I should keep better track of where I leave this thing. Oops. The Redbird ID Card Office also sells ID holders and lanyards. I should think about buying one. Check out the Redbird ID Card Web page for more details on how to secure and protect your ID card.

Receiving ID/ Lost or Stolen Cards

Freshmen will receive their Redbird ID Card at Preview. All other students, faculty, and staff may come in as soon as they've registered for classes or their forms for employment have been processed. Please bring a photo ID with you when you come to check in--a driver's license works great. We'll take your picture and don't worry, there's a mirror so you can check out how you look first. The card should print out in about 30 seconds. The first card is free, but if you lose your card, there's a $15 replacement fee. Broken cards will be replaced for $5. Remember, if you lose your Redbird ID card, deactivate it immediately by going to the iCampus Portal and clicking the Financial Info tab. Or you can call the Redbird Card ID Office at 438-CARD 24/7.

Where to Use

Where can I use it? Well, let's see. It's called the Redbird ID Card, so pretty much, it's accepted all over the Illinois State campus. Go Redbirds! I can use it at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore on campus, and it's accepted at the Alamo II Bookstore. Buying books is easy with the Redbird Debit Account and it makes returning books even easier. The Redbird Debit Account pays for laundry at most residence halls, parking in two paylots, vending machines, copies and laser printing at Milner, and even supplements those flex dollars if you run out. There's even a link to a detailed location sheet on this Web site that shows you all of the locations on campus that will accept your card, what accounts they will accept, and voilà, the money is pulled out of the account! The Redbird Card is also used for verification that you are a current student at Illinois State University at locations such as Milner Library, Student Health Services, Student Rec Services, and even free bus rides around Bloomington-Normal. Many merchants off campus will even give you a discount if you provide your Redbird ID too.
