Indirect Costs

Indirect Costs are budgeted on most awards. The Indirect Rate Policy can be viewed from the Research and Sponsored Programs Web site, and included the rationale for Indirect costs, current rates, summary of rates, and campus distribution.

The current negotiated indirect costs rate for Illinois State University is:

  • 43 percent MTDC for on-campus programs from 7/1/05 through 6/30/08
  • 42.5 percent for on-campus programs after 6/30/08 until amended.
  • 26 percent for off-campus programs through 6/30/08 and then until amended.

Modified Total Direct Cost (MTDC) includes all direct costs, except equipment over $5,000, the portion of each subcontract that exceeds $25,000, scholarships, fellowships, capital expenditures, rental costs of off-site facilities, etc.
